An area of special interest for me is supporting the return to and maintenance of good gynecological and overall health.  Good gynecological health is contributed to and maintained by homeostasis - or a balance in the endocrine and system entirety.  When gynecological symptoms occur, it is not just a case of reducing them, but understanding why they manifested, in order to realign the body with better overall health.

‘I noticed a powerful shift in my perception of my pregnancy - the note I wrote to myself said, ‘my feeling and my visualization of this presence in my body has shifted - from fragile, delicate and precarious to ferocious, powerful, tidal; a life-force in my belly’. I’ve been carrying that visualization with me since (the session), and I find it deeply soothing’ - Anonymous

WHEN CAN ACUPUNCTURE BE USED? - Acupuncture can be useful to support balance at key times of gynecological and hormonal change such as during puberty, through pregnancy, post natally and during menopause.  It can also support women during times of emotional or physical stress and with specific symptoms that are either chronic or acute.

MY SUCCESS WITH ACUPUNCTURE - My experience in clinic has been that acupuncture is an effective treatment modality to support the following symptoms; period pain, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovarian syndrome, difficulty conceiving, menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding), metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding at irregular intervals) and amenorrhea (absence of menstruation).

INTEGRATING TREATMENT AND LIFESTYLE EDUCATION - My experience working with women has led me to see the importance of education alongside treatment, of integrating lifestyle advice with hands on work; integrating bodywork (massage and craniosacral therapy) when needed and sharing the knowledge of Chinese Medical principles in order to empower patients in making choices around other contributing health factors such as food, movement and lifestyle.

OTHER TOOLS - When appropriate, I also use basal body temperature (BBT) charting.  BBT charting is a method of knowing when you are fertile - a useful practice for women tracking their fertile time of the month both to help a process of conception as well as for natural contraception.

As a member of ACT (Acupuncture for Childbirth Team) Oxford, I am committed to offering support for women in the lead up to, during and post pregnancy.

TREATMENTS AVAILABLE - I offer one to one acupuncture and craniosacral therapy treatments.  I also run The Women's Multibed Acupuncture Clinic alongside  Jess Buck.

If you are considering acupuncture for women's health issues please do get in touch.  I am happy to discuss whether acupuncture is the right treatment for you.
